Okoi
The Okoi do not hold contiguous territory and they do not need to. Their city-states are cultural fortresses: self-contained, defensible, and interconnected through tradition and the Hammer Accord. Nobody wants Okoi weapons pointed at them, and the Okoi are aware of this.
Native to the Remnant Continent alongside the Anamor and Haqol, the Okoi were here before the Shattering migration and have never left.
Appearance
Section titled “Appearance”Okoi have a copper metallic complexion, warm, reflective, and visually distinct with their pointed ears. Their physical build varies across city-states, but they tend toward a practical density built for the kind of work their culture prizes.
The Law of Recurrence
Section titled “The Law of Recurrence”The Okoi lineage polarity is Recurrence: attunement to cycles, weather, tides, seasons, and cosmic rhythms.
An Okoi with developed polarity can read and influence cyclical patterns in the world around them. This begins with weather, with an Okoi Rennim understanding and shaping meteorological systems, and extends to deeper rhythms: tide patterns, agricultural cycles, celestial movements. They are not predicting the future. They are reading the cycle and understanding where it is.
This attunement shapes how Okoi craftwork functions. The finest Okoi-forged weapons are made with an understanding of the rhythms of metal, fire, and force that other smiths cannot replicate.
Culture & Society
Section titled “Culture & Society”Okoi culture is rooted in tradition and deeply connected to specific places. They are not wanderers. Their city-states are anchors, each with their own customs, histories, and specialties, all connected by shared Okoi identity and the Hammer Accord.
They are not welcoming to outsiders by default. Building trust with an Okoi community takes time and demonstrated commitment. The inverse is also true: once you are genuinely accepted by an Okoi community, you are accepted by all Okoi within that city-state. The relationship extends fully or not at all.
Their reputation as legendary smiths is not an exaggeration. Okoi weaponry and metalwork is widely regarded as the finest available. This gives the Hammer Accord considerable leverage in continental politics. Any nation that wants access to Okoi-crafted weapons has to deal with the Accord on terms the Okoi find acceptable.
Government: The Hammer Accord
Section titled “Government: The Hammer Accord”The Hammer Accord is the governing council of Okoi city-state leaders. It does not seek to expand territory or establish hegemony over the continent. Its purpose is to coordinate between city-states and ensure that Okoi leverage, primarily their weapons, is used to the collective benefit.
The Accord’s power comes from its leverage. No nation on the continent wants to be cut off from Okoi metalwork, and no nation wants Okoi-forged weapons in the hands of their enemies. The Accord knows this, and negotiates accordingly.
Relations with Other Peoples
Section titled “Relations with Other Peoples”Like the Anamor and Haqol, the Okoi were displaced by the organized arriving civilizations following the Shattering. Their response was different. Rather than going nomadic (Anamor) or into hiding (Haqol), the Okoi consolidated into defensible city-states and made themselves too valuable to eliminate.
Thylini are rare among the Okoi but treated as family once accepted. The Okoi’s general distrust of outsiders means anyone who earns genuine acceptance is fully inside, not provisionally, not conditionally.
