Guided Walkthrough: Lineage

Lineage is where your character’s body and blood come from. It is not merely heritage. It is a literal biological inheritance that shapes your relationship with Ren.

There are seven sapient peoples of Ithasen, collectively called the Thuim. All are technically the same species, which means lineages can combine. Those of mixed lineage are called Thylini. This is not a neutral social category: in most of Ithasen, being Thylini comes with complications. Take that seriously when building your character.

What Your Lineage Means

Each lineage grants access to a polarity tied to one of the Laws of Ren. This polarity is yours to improve regardless of your values. It is biological, not chosen.

If you rolled Anamor, you also need to determine your clan, as it affects your physical appearance and may affect your social standing. Notable clans: Titan, Dawnplains, Dreamweaver, Paledusk, Leviathan, Reweran.

If you rolled Daruner/Highborn blood, carries significant weight, denoting royalty, or some special capacity in all cultures.

If you rolled Nyl and/or Janim, they have tense relationships and have deep distrust, as well as racial prejudice against each other from the Nyl enslaving the Janim for thousands of years previously.

If you rolled Haqol, you’re a target. Haqol deeply distrust all other races, except for the Anamor, and they have retreated to the far east. Many Highborn would kidnap, capture, or force them to introduce their blood into their house.

If you are Highborn with Janim lineage, you belong to a noble house. The major listed houses are below, but players and GMs are welcome to create their own.

House Adimor	Marishet	Gersan, Marishet, Ahjis	Agriculture and forestry	Controls the largest share of Dosharen’s farmland and forest holdings. Conservative, resistant to change, and able to move food prices when unhappy.
House Sejathin	Famirosh	Famirosh, Gersan, Marishet	Marathat antiquities	A minor rising house that recently gained leverage through ruin discoveries near the Shejaran border. Hungry in a way established houses are not.
House Reshani	Ahjis	Ahjis, Shenirim, Gersan, Kyhavra (Kyr’elian)	Harbor tariffs and foreign trade	The oldest Ahjis house. The most internationally connected in Dosharen, with deep ties to Kyr’elian merchants. Controls who docks and what it costs.
House Majithem	Narimis	Narimis, Sarathe	Fishing fleets and coastal supply	Less prestigious than Reshani but economically essential. Feeds the city and keeps the coastal supply chain running.
House Shirajen	Sarathe	Sarathe, Ahjis, Narimis	Shipbuilding and naval contracts	Rose to prominence through joint merchant vessel contracts with the Kyr’elian Assembly. Builds ships for half the eastern coast.
House Diramesh	Terima	Terima, northern Lithywae border	Kerim mining	The oldest mining house. Controls the largest kerim deposits in the northern range. Their Daruner blood has been used for generations to infuse kerim into construction materials.
House Tareshin	Vashoht	Vashoht, Terima, Gersan	Turim refinement and distribution	Primary refiner of Ren-infused metals. Supplies the Gate of Zerathrain and military contracts across Dosharen.
House Ejarif	Jashirith	Jashirith, Vashoht, northern coast, northern Lithywae border	Mountain passes and overland trade	Controls the routes toward Lithywae. Politically exposed; other houses accuse them of too-close dealings with Nylvish merchants.
House Dajimir	Jadir’ishet (Shejara)	Shejara	Rule of Shejara	The secretive rulers of Shejara. Rarely seen in public. The rest of the continent fears the knowledge they have uncovered in the desert.

The Thylini Question

The more lineages you carry, the more unusual you are, both biologically and socially. Blanket attitudes across cultures toward Thylini:

Anamor: don’t care
Elkyr: welcome other lineages, though not necessarily integration
Janim: indifferent to Thylini generally; hostile specifically to those with Nylvish blood
Nyl: look down on all Thylini; actively harsh toward those with Nylvish descent
Okoi: Thylini are rare but treated as family within Okoi circles, given their general distrust of outsiders
Highborn / Daruner: those with only Daruner and Haqol blood are feared and revered; all others carrying high-status blood mixed with common lineages are quietly discriminated against

The Nyl/Janim tension in particular runs deep. The Nyl enslaved the Janim for thousands of years. That history does not stay in the past.
