Polarities

Polarities are the specific flavors of Ren a character can wield. Each polarity must be tied to one of your values. The connection must be conceptually coherent: the polarity should reflect how your character experiences that value.

Your lineage grants one inherent polarity regardless of value selection. All other polarities are chosen at character creation or unlocked through value shifts during play.

There are 90 polarities organized into 12 categories, plus 8 lineage polarities tied to the Laws of Ren.

Each lineage grants one inherent polarity tied to one of the Eight Laws of Ren. This polarity is always available regardless of your current values.

Abilities built on a lineage polarity unlock a signature condition not available to any other polarity. These conditions are listed below and detailed in Active Abilities.

LineageLawEffectSignature Condition
AnamorConversionBody transformation through blood consumption.Converted
DarunerCoalescenceSealing, binding, condensing Ren into stable forms.Seal Polarity
ElkyrFluxMovement, flow, sea attunement.Fluidity
HaqolHarmonyAmplification and overcharging of other polarities.Polarity Harmonization
JanimElasticityRapid restoration and refreshment.Rebounding
NylInfluencePhysical strength, speed, charisma.Polarity Empowered
OkoiRecurrenceCycles, weather, cosmic rhythms.Momentum
TheridimEmergenceThe convergence of all eight laws. Unlocked when all seven base lineages are present.Unified

Polarities are always usable as the foundation for active abilities and passive abilities. The key constraint is conceptual coherence. A polarity can only do what it could effectively do conceptually. Heat polarity sucking warmth out of a room is valid. Heat polarity creating a shadow that’s solid is not. Shadow turning into spikes is fine, but Shadows glowing are not.
