The Black Chalice

The Black Chalice venerates Ingridrid, the spirit of Corruption, one of the Three Who Descend. Their doctrine holds that pain and corruption are not obstacles to overcome but necessary passages: that to be broken down is to be prepared, and that what emerges from genuine corruption is something truer than what existed before.

They do not preach this openly. The Black Chalice operates through small, tightly bound cells whose members are rarely aware of the full scope of the organization. Entry is gradual: fringe philosophy becomes practice, practice becomes ritual, ritual becomes something harder to walk away from.

The Black Chalice has a relationship with the Vethrim that no other faction holds. Vethrim are animalistic by nature — driven purely by predation, incapable of organization without external direction. A Rennim who has taken Corruption as a value-tied polarity can reach them, command them, and give their hunger a shape.

Black Chalice members who have developed far enough in their practice develop exactly this quality. For the Chalice, the Vethrim are not merely weapons. They are proof of doctrine: beings who exist at the pure endpoint of what corruption produces, unclouded by the hesitations that still restrain their mortal servants.

GM: What the Chalice Actually Wants

The Black Chalice’s ultimate goal is facilitating Ingridrid’s descent into mortal flesh. Every ritual, every act of pain and corruption, is understood as contributing to that end — wearing down the barriers between the spirit world and the mortal plane, preparing a vessel, accumulating the necessary conditions.

The Vethrim serve that goal practically: as enforcers, as a demonstration of what the Chalice is capable of, and as a tool for eliminating threats. The members who command them do not experience this as monstrous. They experience it as mastery.
